A brief look in…

Friday, February 27th, 2009

As so often in my devotion time or in my personal worship time whether it be carshipping (worshipping while driving) or deskshipping (worshipping at your desk) I come across a song where I know it but for what ever reason the lyrics touch me to the point of tears and joy for what my Savior has done for me.  This morning was one of those mornings.  As I sat at my desk after dropping the girls off I began to play Mercy Me’s new album and I was grabbed.  Now let me lay some groundwork, last night I taught our mens dicipleship class on “Trusting God” out of the book of Genesis ftom the story of Abraham and his son Isaac.  And we discussed Abraham’s faith and obedience we talked about the desire each each of us to have the same amount but how often we fail.  But I think this song (for me) sings of my heart.  It is my desires and sometimes my reality that I lay everything down at Christ’s feet because my chains are gone and that debt is paid.  But anything and everything that I could lay down is so tiny in the shadow of the cross.  He did so much for us, and the kicker in this whole thing is that before God even created us as humans He knew He was going to have to sacrifice His son.  The very same thing that He asked Abraham to do, but when it came time for Abraham to finish the task God was with Him.   So I include the lyrics that grabbed me so and I pray that all within you cries for God alone to be glorified.  Simply because He did pay your debt and your now free.

My heart sings a brand new song.
The debt is paid, these chains are gone.
Emmanuel, God with us.

Such a tiny offering
Compared to Calvary;
Nevertheless,
We lay it at Your feet.

Such a tiny offering
Compared to Calvary;
Nevertheless,
We lay this at Your feet.

All that is within me cries
For You alone be glorified:
Emmanuel, God with us.

My heart sings a brand new song.
My debt is paid, these chains are gone.
Emmanuel, God with us.

Tonight I was blessed enough to be able to spend the evening celebrating a fellow pastor’s birthday (the big 40)!!  There was a lot of over the hill paraphernalia and a lot of our church showed up to help him celebrate.  The party was great and all of the guests had a wonderful time but for some reason when a lot of people get together people end up dragging you into stuff that you normally wouldn’t do.  Let me show you a prime example….

Tyler "Ray" Cyrus

Tyler "Ray" Cyrus

See this is not something that I would normally do.  I by nature would not put on a blond mullet wig and dance and sing like Billy Ray Cyrus.  But when the crowd is around you can get caught up and the next thing you know you are acting like…well…like Billy Ray Cyrus.  There is no real input here scripturally speaking unless we discuss not being conformed to the character of those around you (paraphrase) but I don’t even think that is worth it at this point.  This is just an example of how good things can go really wrong if you are not careful.  Even the best of intentions is a ugly situation can lead down a path that we wished in the end it did not go.  This is why we must stay in the Bible to show ourselves approved and give ourselves the ability to use God’s word to help us deal with any circumstances in our lives.  Now I don’t know that there is scripture that could actually pertain to “Billy Ray” here but I do know that I had a good time in the company of God’s people and anytime that can happen is a good thing.  I hope that you are not forsaking the assembly of the chosen and that you will continue to read your Bible and stay true to the Word of God.  And oh yeah watch out for Tyler Ray Cyrus…he’s a heart breaker, and rumor has it that he went home with the groupie in the grey shirt tonight!

Location Location Location

Friday, February 20th, 2009

All of my realtor friends will tell you that the number 1 rule in real estate is :  Location, Location, Location!  And oddly enough I think in many ways it is the same for Christianity.  Now I don’t mean the location of your physical church but the location of your heart.  Are you spiritually close to God or are you acres and acres away?  So many times we as Christians become involved in what matters to us and not what matters to God and we get further and further away from Him and His plans.  So let me ask you what is your location?  The Bible is a lot of things; a set of instructions, a lineage record, a story book, sets of public records (birth and death records), but most importantly it is a map to find our location where we are and to find God and His location so that we can go there.

This morning after dropping my girls off at school I went and did my devotion at what I call “The Point”, I am not sure what it is actually called but the name fits for me and so it works ;o).  But I went there because I wanted a chage of perspective during my devotion, I wanted to get to a place where I had open sky and open terrain so that I could look directly into the sky and around me and see God splendor and the same time I was reading His word (another luxury of being laid off).  Here is a picture that I took with my phone this morning so you know what I mean…

Some of God's Splendor

Some of God's Splendor

So as I am at the point and I begin reading my Bible I also have the radio playing and a song from the group Third Day comes on and I had a chance to really listen which I generally don’t do because I am not really big Third Day listener.  The song is the new single off their new album “Revelation” also titled “Revelation”.  Now let me give you a bit of the lyrics and then I will explain further:

“I know that you are holding all the answers
I’m tired of losing hope and taking chances,
On roads that never seem,
To be the ones that bring me home

Give me a revelation,
Show me what to do
Cause I’ve been trying to find my way,
I haven’t got a clue
Tell me should I stay here,
Or do I need to move
Give me a revelation
I’ve got nothing without You
I’ve got nothing without You”

So that is my location today…As I sit in week 7 of unemployment having God be my total provision, I know that God is holding all the answers and I am praying for a revelation cause I haven’ t got a clue.  What is your location,   do you need to stay where you are or do you need to move?  I don’t know the answer for you anymore than I know for myself right now but I do know that He knows and will tell you in His timing as long as your are searching and asking!!

Speaking God’s Praises

Friday, February 20th, 2009

Tonight we had another wonderful E3-group.   We discussed things and events that are current for our church and for our ministries in Eureka.  Well as we were talking Krystal started to look around and we realized that God had answered a prayer and we didnt even notice.  One of the members our group has been asking for prayer for his daughter and some of the circumstances in her life that she has been dealing with.  As of tonight she made her first visit to our group and was an answer to prayer.  See our prayers were that she would begin to get back to her walk with Christ, she had taken some time away and in a place where her father was concerned for her walk.  But we prayed for her week after week with no progress so we thought.  Our Great and Mighty GOD was able to reach down and touch her and she is now back to trying to walk with Christ and allowing HIM to give her the best possible.  It is a perfect example of praying and praying without  seeing the inner workings until BAM there it is!!!  Thank you God for being faithful and true even when we are not.  Tonights blog is not about teaching but about sharing a praise!!

God Bless ~ Tyler
