I dont do it enough…

I was listening to the radio this morning and there was nothing on the Christian stations that really caught my ear so I went surfing down the dial.  When I happen to get distracted and the radio stopped on a country station that I decided to stay with as I haven’t listened to any country in awhile.  A song began to play a short time after I began to listen from an artist that I like their music but choose not to listen to due to the language and some of the references.  Well, I am glad I stuck with this song because it had a message that I thought was awesome.  Here is the chorus:

But I know I’m a lucky man
God’s given me a pretty fair hand
Got a house and a piece of land
A few dollars in a coffee can
My old trucks still running good
My ticker’s ticking like they say it should
I got supper in the oven, a good woman’s loving
And one more day to be my little kid’s dad
Lord, knows I’m a lucky man

Now although I know that all of these don’t apply to me I think that the statement in and of itself it very profound.  God really has blessed so many of us and we choose not to see the things that we have because we get tricked into only seeing what we don’t.  Or, we allow these stresses in life to get us to a point where we take our eyes off of Him and put them into the things of this world.  Jesus tells us,

Matthew 6:25-27 (New American Standard Bible)
25″ For this reason I say to you, do not be worried about your life, as to what you will eat or what you will drink; nor for your body, as to what you will put on. Is not life more than food, and the body more than clothing?

26″Look at the birds of the air, that they do not sow, nor reap nor gather into barns, and yet your heavenly Father feeds them. Are you not worth much more than they?

27″And who of you by being worried can add a single hour to his life?

My prayer today is that we as the body of Christ; take time to remember that Christ is going to provide all of our needs, and that we should take the time to stop and enjoy the blessings that He has given us.  I know that I never spend enough time with my wife and kids.  And I think that I am fortunate to spend more time than most dads’ get.  But do we as parent’s and spouses really look at things from the perspective of:

I got supper in the oven, a good woman’s loving
And one more day to be my little kid’s dad

Remember, our spouse and our children are gifts and some for just a short time.  We need to take the attitude that we get one more day to be their dad/husband.  I think we would take more time and more effort than we do.

God Bless ~ Tyler

Good insight. It is hard to find the line between need and want. Looking up to God is a good way to see the line. Wish I looked up all the time. JB.
