Daily Devotion 10-30 11-02
Well I missed several days in a row here but I have a good reason and will combine everything that I read the past couple of days into one blog. Well it appears that we here at 2 metalheads have really caused some problems with our stance on Halloween and I dread to get close to Christmas as we inevitably with have to express our stand on Santa Clause. Thats right we dont do Santa either…I know that is almost unpatriotic and just drives people crazy. I know Christians still do Santa/Halloween and I think that whatever you feel you should do you should do. We have had convictions on both of these topics and choose not to celebrate because that is what we feel we should do. Do we have scripture that Santa is bad? No. But to us as we have dealt with these things we did not want it to be confusing and deceitful to our children. In a child’s mind what is the difference between Jesus and Santa (now not what they stand for but in reality)??? There is not one really because if a child believes Santa is real then Jesus and Santa are the same. Because that is two individuals that you cant see with your eyes and you cant touch with your hands and later down the road I am going to tell you that I lied to you and Santa is not really real but wait Jesus is. We just didn’t want to lie to our kids. Enough on that I am sure as Christmas comes around there will be more on that. But let me get into the nuts and bolts of today’s issue. We have had some serious backlash from some Christians with our stance on Halloween. My favorite so far is actually a stance that people have even taken with us on homeschooling is that “you cant take the light out of the world” meaning Christians should be participating to be there as a positive influence. And I think that is a great idea…my next questions is this! How many people when they went door to door actually witnessed to the families that were handing out candy? If the argument is going to be that we still need a light in the world then we need to be a light! The funny thing is I bet I got to witness to more lost people over explaining why we dont trick-or-treat than I would if we did. But before it sounds like I am just ranting my whole point to this is…different convictions are on different people. We have to live by what the Bible teaches and what the Holy Spirit convicts us of. My convictions and your convictions are different not better not worse just different, all that is important is that we are in a place that we can be listening and obedient to those convictions. I hope that you day is blessed ~ Tyler
